Subject: funny smell to firewood

Central Iowa

This is a strange question for a machinery board, but you guys know a lot about a lot of things, so here goes.....
I had a pin oak tree in the yard that died a couple years ago, and I thought that while I was cutting it and splitting that I would save a step and just stack it in the garage. It is pretty well seasoned, or so I thought. But now, my whole garage smells like a litter box. Is that unusual? Does oak always have a weird aroma, or is this caused by whatever killed the tree? How long will this stink up my garage? How bad will it smell when I burn it in the stove?  Needless to say, my family isn't too pleased with me at the moment, but I sure don't like the idea of moving the darned stuff again. Has anyone else experienced this?
