Subject: Re: Do you, or have you, studied chemistry?

Martinsville, Ohio
Only enough to get my degrees and understand the various processes we use in agriculture. I refer to my chemistry majors when I have a question or a situation I want to solve that involves more chemistry than I know.

If I would have learned to enjoy higher mathematics more than farming I could be a chemist. I love chemistry. Remember that post you made about chemistry(I think it was you) sets in the Cafe? I got one and promptly whipped up a batch of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide(rotten egg gas) near the furnace intake of our house and put my family on the street on Christmas day many moons ago. They didn't think that was very funny.

Chemistry is key to a B. Sc., M. Sc. and PhD, especially in agriculture. The best universities have tied that together but most chemistry teachers never understood much practical application of it, especially to agriculture. The ones with the best lab classes are the best teachers.

I can't wait to buy a chemistry set for my oldest grandsons, they aren't quite ready for one.

The chemistry involved in farming amazes me, I learn something every day.
