Subject: corn lodging related to tillage

Garrett County, MD
I was cutting corn today in a field that had been no till for years. This past spring I chiseled one part of the field. Other than that everything else was the same. We had over 2 feet of snow from Sandy and it was very heavy. We had some lodging (broken over at first node). In the no till corn I would say 20% was lodged. In the tilled corn it was around 50%. I ran the header low and got most of the corn. They yielded pretty much the same. So my question is.... Why the difference? It was clearly to the line of the tillage.
