Cookeville Tennessee (central TN) | I enjoy all the Ken Burns documentaries, it gives a good overview of the perspective of society at that time. A few things that jumped out at me: 1) a quote by the chancellor of Univ. of Ok (I think) as claiming a new permanent climate shift in the region based on data of the 1920's, 2) A statement by US ag or its precursor that "the soil is the one thing that cannot be damaged", 3) that removing the permant grasses would improve the land. These things seem absurd right now, but at the same time, aren't we still reactionary to short term market and weather patterns and not necessarily making good decisions based on long-term data? |
