| Rock Road - 11/18/2012 23:40 I posted this earlier in Machinery Talk in response to a post there: Get your hands on the book "The Worst Hard Time" by Timothy Egan. A gripping story that details the entire period and what led up to it, as well as the aftermath. What struck me was that the government paid to get people out there, paid to get the land opened up, paid for the surplus wheat, paid to get the people removed, paid to plant shelter belts of trees, paid to covert back to grass through CRP, later paid to get ethanol going and now the trees are being torn out to start the whole thing over again. -- I read it a few years ago. It was life-altering. Nothing I endure seems quite so bad when I think about what those folks lived thru, year after year. |
