Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | My wife and I saw the movie a few weeks ago. We enjoyed it.
I did a little research on the real story after we watched the movie. Sadly, there are quite a few discrepancies between the movie and the real story.
One, Canada had a lot more to do with the escape than what's depicted in the movie. Much more.
Two, the scene at the end of the movie where there is so much tension getting through the airport......didn't happen at all like that. According to the actual participants...they got through the airport without any incidents or resistance.
As you can tell, it's a pet peeve with me when Hollywood claims to be making a movie about a real event, but then takes liberties with the actual story. It's a question of integrity with me. Hollywood seems to think it's OK to take said liberties in order to produce a more interesting and enjoyable movie. But it bothers me when the viewers, myself included, are lead to believe a movie is a true reflection of a real event.....when in reality, it is not.
