Subject: Re: disk compaction in the Spring

Obviously if the soil is wet you DO NOT want to use a disk. However, I have seen a number of studies that show tillage in the fall comparing a disk, a chisel and a moldboard ....in corn stalks..the following year... the disk and the moldboard yields are statististaclly the same while the chisel yields are significantly less the following year....so are we trying to bad mouth a disk or are we trying to maximize profit? Ie: if the disk was doing so much compaction how is it yielding better than a chisel plowed field...Answer...its not. You cant run a disc in the mud but if the dust is flyin you are fine.
