Subject: RE: Fertilizing Soybeans

Princeton, In

The old adage I've always heard is "corn respond to fertilize, beans respond to fertlity".  Then again, Ben Franklin said "early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" and he was noted for staying out late and sleeping in, so those adages don't always hold true.

Traditionally here, most farmers spread fertilize for both crops before corn. We had always applied our K ahead of beans and our P ahead of corn through the planter as 10-34-0, and we were happy with bean yields.  Then we switched to the fertilize for both crops ahead of corn plan and I feel our bean yields dropped off some.  We are now applying P & K ahead of corn and K and some pell lime ahead of beans.  Only been doing this a couple years, but I like the results so far......mark
