Subject: Re: liberty herbicide???'s

NW MN
For the most part, Liberty is an entirely different animal than glyphosate. They are similar in that there is very little crop response. Liberty is a contact herbicide that requires 15 gpa of water, 2-3# ams, and 75 degrees and sunny (the hotter the better). While most can handle the first two requirements (with some complaining about using more water), the 75 and sunny part is difficult to accomplish in the middle of June in our part of the world without wind also being an obstacle. This year was an exception to the rule of course and Liberty worked extremely well. You need to treat LL beans very similar to conventional beans by using a pre-emerge product and applying Liberty on weeds that are 1-2" tall (the smaller the better). Liberty does not have residual and doesn't work very well on grass, so you need to add your choice of grass herbicide (clethodim, sethoxydim, etc..) as well. If you are lucky you might be able to sneak by with one Liberty app. if your residual herbicide holds until the later part of June. If you need two applications I use 36 oz. the first app and 30 oz. the second.
