By torch valves do you mean on the torch or the bottles? On the torch I adjust them to get the flame that I want. On the bottles I always open the oxygen completely. I was always told that because of the way the valve is made that is what you need to do. I think it has to do with keeping the oxygen from leaking it the valve. I only open the acetylene a little way.
