| I'll second what Jim said about the mitre saw. Also don't cut your mitres at 0 degrees. I set mine to around 1 to get a slight back cut, making the face of the joint tighter.
Another tip... leave the tape measure and pencil in your belt and break out the combination square and box cutter. Set your combo square for the reveal (I prefer 3/16 ) and using the box cutter, lightly scratch the casing at the width of the reveal. Hold the vertical trim up to the marks and mark the trim w/box cutter, at the point where the trim and the horizontal reveal line meet. Cut the vertical trim and install. For the horizontal piece, flip it (thick side down...opposite of how you would install it) and put it on top of the two pieces of vertical trim. Mark the outside, cut it, and if everything was installed square, you should have a perfect joint. If it's not square, bust out the caulk. Clear as mud? | |
