| pH says nothing of soil tilth in a mineral soil.....pH and nutrient availability can be ideal per the book, yet if the wrong elements (eg high Na, high K and/or high Mg) control that pH, then the crop will suffer. Understand from the git-go which element is 'holding up your pH', then decide if that element(s) should be holding up your soil pH.
There are a lot of 'goodies' below 4" in our soil which are unavailable to the plant because of poor tilth at lower depth. Lime is a 'slow mover' here or I am a bit impatient...probably both. | |
