Central Iowa | I dunno, I am not as old as your father, I will turn 47 in a few days, but this just has trouble written all over it.Will they detect the occasional rock? Will they adapt to washed out waterways and tile holes in the field? Can they pick up rocks? Will it detect when the NH3 bar shears a knife bolt or a shank breaks? Will it know when the disk has a plugged gang, or row units on the planter gummed up and not covering the seed? I find it frustrating that everyone is so eager to eliminate one of the most rewarding of all farm jobs. I truly enjoy operating the equipment and trying to fine tune it's operation. The jobs that will be left over when automation takes over are what I would typically refer to as crap jobs. Do we really want to be reduced to only having crap jobs to do? If I only wanted a pencil pushing job, I would have chosen a career other than farming. |
