.....really didn't see a posted speed change so I assumed it was 35.....

During the CDL driving test I was asked with no warning what the most recent traffic control sign was. The response was noted. ( My answer was correct) Vehicle driver is responsible to observe and obey signs.

Officer is tasked with enforcement of law. You violated the law. Next time you drive that road you might be looking to see where that sign was.

During my college years on a night trip alone I noted signs for a highway junction ahead, nearing the intersection view to the right was blocked ... No speed reduction signs, I figured the crossing road must have to stop. At the intersection lay the stop sign on the shoulder, me going 60, and headlights close on the right. I blew past the nose of a semi, went into cold sweat. Still makes me shudder to think about it.

Pay your fine , learn your lesson, be thankful the education was not more complicated.
