whitehall maryland | I started cattle with about thirty acres of pasture to use up my hay that didnt work for my horse customers, after chasing checks from horse people i started to like the cows better. When I purchased the home farm those cows were looked at as assets and helped me secure financing. I know that Im located in maryland which is not considered cattle country, people ask me to make hay off their pastures to keep them mowed, but are not willing to let me graze them. So instaed of moving my cows to pastures i move the pastures to the cows. Different strokes for different strokes.I do know that the metro baltimore washington consumers want local beef and will pay a premium for it. Ive always believed that my generation will have to farm differently than the way my grandfather did it, just have to be willing to think outside the box. | |
