Does anyone use there farm semi to haul over the road during the off season?

Have you considered hauling livestock? You might still have to haul some loads during harvest, but can probably cut back some during that time if you work with the right outfit. Pulling vans pays the least because it is the easiest.

Analyze the business independently of the farm. If you did not have a semi for farm use, would you get into the trucking business? If not, why? How much are you willing to subsidize it from the farm to make it attractive? Is it worth that? Answer may be yes or no. I see a lot better returns elsewhere with less headaches, but others seem to make it work.
