Subject: Burning the end of the tail off of on yearlings?

ecsd

Today I helped my neighbor work some yearlings he bought that he is going to finish out. My job was to burn the hair off the end of their tail just below the tail bone. He said he does this to prevent manure from freezing on the end of the tail and forming a ball of frozen manure. I have never seen or heard of this before. Does anyone else do this?? thanks!
