Looking at it, I doubt that a VN era reservist would be eligible unless called to active duty. Also, they've started to means test benefits for all who don't qualify for what they term "enhanced eligibility". Could be that a guy would qualify be be ineligible because he's made too much money after getting out of even the active services.
I seriously doubt that membership in a Vet's organization would either enhance or lessen the chances of the actual VA providing coverage. Could be though that some ins. company has come up with a group plan for Part D Medicare for Legion members. Hard to say whether it would be a better deal than what's offered to non-members.
