some metal and black fiber is normal. the brakes are where the axle housing bolts to the transmission case. jack up each side and with a dial indicator see how much the axles move, if they move .010" or more i would atleast keep an eye on it and check it again next fall. if it starts getting worse then you simply pop the axle off and tighten them up.

for the pressure guage that is what we use. put it in an outlet and see if the pressure climbs. then pump the lever and see how high the pressure goes. you want it at 2250-2300. then let go of the lever and see how it holds the pressure. if the pressure just drops off make note of it, then do the other outlets, make note of all of them if they leak up or down. if they leak up or down bad in the winter when the tractor is resting go get it rebuilt.

pto seal is easy. just take the six bolts out, remove the little housing and relpace the seal.

use john deere hygaurd oil. if you are going to use an aftermarket brand make sure it meets hyguard specs and not just john deere 303 oil.

there is no filter on the pump, you have the two filters and screen cleaned in the rear end. what we do is if you have the sump screen out and the pto open is we have a siphon wand that we use with gas, spray it in from the pto end and sump screen area to give a flush of the case.
