I know if I have 700 acres of grass here in Iowa I can not raise as much beef-raising corn lets me raise more total lbs. of beef per acre-but that's just my neck of the woods!
I would guess the article would be maybe for the other 49 states,but here I can put a 400# calf in my feedlot and feed it out with my own roughage and grain-corn is just simplely my most profitable product to raise-I do have wheat,rye,and alfalfa also-but corn hands down puts more beef per acre on the table here more then anything else.
I dont think the feedlot industry based any of there feedlots off just corn,they will adjust to other rations to meet there need's-wasnt there Just a article about feeding some product with distillers the other day-I think Mark said something about Doc getting cheap gains in the feedlot with that product?
