I have a 36' stir bin 5 rings. DMC stirrers. 15 hp fan.

Corn Drying Cost

Wet Tonnes dried 324.93
Initial Moisture 25.2

Final Moisture 12.2

Total drymatter 243.04
Dry tonnes 276.81
Tonnes water removed 48.12

Natural Gas Used 166.2
Cubic meters 9495
Gas Cost $.19/meter^3
$ gas cost $1,804.05
$/wet tonne $5.55
$/dry tonne $6.53

Electricity $0.90
Total energy cost $7.43

This setup is new in 2008. At the time we dried about 300 tonne so 1 batch/year worked just fine. This year I am doing 5 batches and it is no longer sufficient. Length of drying time is nearly 7 days from 24%. Then unload-reload. TOO LONG. So we have outgrown it. That doesn't mean its a total waste. It has its uses.

One thing i really don't like is at 24% the drying time is long enough to sprout corn, allow mildew growth. That is not good.
