Subject: RE: Grain Drying Efficiency

NEIL- I know I threw out a bunch of rambling ideas in your bin dryer thread a couple weeks back, but since you are looking at stuff like an SQ16- I think one component of your thought process should have nothing to do with efficiency. Full heat in a CF dryer and cooling in the bin is good for fuel efficiency, but I remember 2009 and the memories are not good. Having a horizontal dryer with 2 fans and the capability to run full heat normally and dry/cool if you need to would be a good ace in your sleeve. Putting a bunch of hot 17% corn in a storage bin in that occasional horrible fall where there are no sunny days to finish the process, could cost you more trouble with $6-7-8 corn than what the upfront cost of a slightly more expensive and capable dryer is.
