NE MO & W IL | We have a 4, 6, 8, and now 10 inch boot. As Tiler posted, it's all about creating a "good bed" for your 4 inch. If you are going to install 1000's of feet of any given tile size, I'd be running the correct boot. That being said, what do you do with 3 inch and 5 inch tile? Well, you run the the 4 and 6 inch boots, knowing it's not the "perfect" bed, but it works fine. We just completed a NRCS job where we ran 4-10 inch tile. We had plenty of grade and each section of tile size was less than 600 ft. So, we ran the 5 and 4 inch throught the 6 inch boot. Ran some 6 inch through the 8 inch boot. We got to see the actual tile install due to the all the risers we put in, and the smaller tile throught the bigger boots looked excellent.
Bottom line, with plenty of grade and a few hundred feet, do the most time efficient solution (don't switch boots). If you are working with smaller grades and installing 1000's of feet of tile, use the correct boot. On pattern tile jobs, we always switch to the 4 inch boot after mains are laid. Just my opinion. | |
