No way that was a criminal act, that was a civil matter at that time. Also,,,,, IIRC in TX there is a 3 day buyers remorse period where the car can be returned. Don't know for sure, but may be same type of law in VA.
Yes, in most states you have 3 days to return an undamaged car for a refund. This law does not allow you to exchange that car for a more expensive model without paying the difference. In my mind, this jerk took full advantage of an innocent oversight to try to steal $5000+ from the dealer. He was told about the mistake before he left the dealer, so it is not like they tried to fix this mistake, weeks after the fact. Not the kind of person I would want for a neighbor and someone I would have nothing to do with.

Jon, I sure would not want you on a jury.  You clearly are not only assuming things that are not in evidence in the story but things that clearly contradict what the story says.

". . . Dennis Ellmer, president of Priority Chevrolet, says he owes Sawyer an apology on behalf of the dealership, and had intended to do right by the buyer by letting him have the vehicle at the agreed-upon price. . . ." (emphasis added)

I see nothing in the article which indicates the buyer knew the price was higher on the exchanged car at the time the agreement/purchase was made.
