45 miles south spingfield il. | horse power is not the real issue, I think it is weight. I tried a 16-31 during those wet springs, 8430 four wheel drive. I got stuck twice and most of the time thought I would be again. I've downsized to 12-23 and a 4440 of couse it was drier this spring but the whole operation seemed easier to pull and get into fields. I took a 7 thousand dollar hit getting rid of larger kinzie but still think it was right move.
The 12-23 seems to pull about like a 24ft fieldcultivator on 4440. The 16-31 on 8430 the first two years were really wet and I had trouble starting out in c range so ran b-2 all spring, third year was drier and it would take off in c range.
Also the larger planter can get stressed crossing ditches and hills. broke a hinge crossing a ditch I thought the planter would never run again. But I found a very good welder operator. I know I'm very negative but this is my experience. good luck |
