Geneva, Ohio | In our area there is approx 4500 acres of it with poor stands. Uncle sam supplimented the cost to plant it at $562 an acre but overall cost was closer to $1000 according some share croppers that signed into the bcap program. We have no market for it nearby they talked of shipping it over to europe they have mandates to use it. They also talked about using it for egg cartons? In other words it is used for pulp competing with wood chips around here and wood chips sell from $30-50 a ton when you can find a buyer!(I have a friend that is in the business). My opinion dont waste your time spend the 1000 dollars an acre on tile and fertilizer your payback will be quicker. | |
