That Allis-Chalmers model 1500 Min-Til has been mine since about 2000.
The only time it has plugged is along a weedy fenceline.
Cornhead used in the picture was a Deere 893. As far as I know factory stock.
Before the Deere the cornhead was a late 70s or early 80s Gleaner black head.

I also have a disk ripper, so do not use the chisel every year.

Brother has had a 9 shank Min-Til since about 1990. Also never plugged it.

Mine is a 11 shank. I have reduced it to 9 since the tractor is several thoursand pounds lighter than it was. And this old man just doesn't want to put that weight on anymore.
The combined weight of the 3-point, coupler, rockbox, and weights is about 3000#.
But the tractor is still quite a bit lighter than it was.

If you can get your field cultivator thru it next spring, I see no reason to chop or disk before.

And the tractor is quite a bit wider than 11'-3"

Pretty sure the stalks in the below 1999 picture were chopped.
The White will plug with all five shanks down.
Sometimes I chopped with my 20' Brady.
And sometimes ripped un-chopped stalks first with three down. Then again with all five down and at an angle.
The stalks just flowed thru then.
