If a 5 shank ripper is only 14' at the back it isn't going to do good job of covering the 12.5 they are made to do. Our 512 is 18' at rear disks and at times it still won't do a good job at 12.5 but with typical moisture it does fine. I'd say find a different ripper, Landoll made a 6 shank that might interest you. Now about it being wider, neighbor runs a 4 shank Landoll behind a CIH 8920 which would be about 12-13', probably same width as his ripper, you could never tell it after the fact.
