Subject: 1460 broken axle

Southern IN
Had just pulled into the drive at home, and was easing her up to the fuel tank when the right front wheel came off. It broke the axle outside the final drive, at the end of the three bolt holes.
Other than some bent tin, nothing else is tore up. Thank God it happened in the drive barely moving rather than going down the hiway full bore.
I'm wondering what would be the best way to fix it. buy the new beefed up shaft from case Ih, or get a used final drive from a salvage yard. I think the used way would probably be cheaper, but I would not want to put on another weak axle. Does anyone know if the 1660s have the heavier axle or was it updated later? And did later models use different hubs, more bolts? I wouldn't want to have to change to a different wheel.

One thing about the whole mess was kind of funny though. My wife and our two little ones were standing in the yard waving and watching me when it happened. And if you could have seen the look on her face when it dropped,,,,, Andy
