NW Washington
I am not sure about the science of this, but it seems like when you add more blades to a disc mower the performance does not improve. Old lawn mowers back when rotary mowers first appeared used something similar to what you describe with only 4 blades and they disappeared. There was a multiple blade disc arrangement for lawnmowers that was touted up in FarmShow for years that is discussed to and has links to in my link and they have not captured the market. I also remember putting an extra string on a HD string trimmer once and the engine did not have enough poop to spin the cutter blade, so I took off the extra cord and all was well.
