You are correct. A couple of hydraulic hoses and a flow divider (some people get an electric divider and run a switch to operate) is really all that is needed.

The 86 series IH tractors with open center systems have a lot of restrictions in the back end of the tractor which generates too much heat on any continuous duty requirements. There is an auxiliary pump that you will be tying into for the flow. Information is available on the Ace Pumps web site: http://www.acepumps.com/_Assets/Literature/IHK-86.pdf

I would verify the hose connection needs for the pump end. Pumps prior to 2005 used the 3/8" NPT connections and since then used 1/2" NPT connections.
