I guess asking whether you're cooling in the dryer or not. How high your temps are? Fine cracks in corn from heat change won't show up until you bang them a bit...so yeah, that's a pretty tall leg, and maybe you do need a cushion box in the center of the downspout. But I've seen an awful lot of legs that tall without one...so, I would look for cumulative issues....including not having it as clean as you think right off the combine. Even really good looking clean corn will keep a grain cleaner busy before it hits the intake for your grain system. Best thing I can tell you about keeping corn in condition...is run new rasp bars on your rotor or cylinder. They don't last forever...
