Good explanation, John. It looks like the J.D. application for this alternator says it is a 90 amp output. I'm pretty sure my original Delco was at least 120 amp, and the dealer said they had really good luck with this Nippondenso replacing the Delco. Is it possible this Nippondenso in my picture is more than 90 amps?
Yep, good chance yours is larger. The amp output may be marked on your alternator.
My old 1480's get by with a 72 amp alternator, but have minimal lights and other electrical stuff.
Good chance that your local auto supply shop or JD dealer can set you up with one with a lot higher capacity from a combine or other high amp application.
