This debate can get as heated (no pun intended) as seed corn or tractor brand.
FWIW, I'm not a fan of pellet fed smokers. I've never been around a Green Mountain but I've seen the Traeger's. The pellet smokers work good but if you're wanting to spend $1000 for a smoker, look at a Big Green Egg or Primo.
A Green Egg will smoke at low heat and will cook steak at 7-800 degrees. IMO, the Green Egg is a more useful and versatile cooker. They use lump charcoal which gets as hot as the surface of the sun, or if you limit the air, will smolder at low heat for 12+ hours. If you use Briquette charcoal you will be disappointed.
