Subject: Check PTO shaft alignment

Statesville, NC
I have seen on some tractors where the pto is a lot higher than the drawbar it can cause too much angle on the u-joints and vibration. It's best if the tractor pto is about 8" above the top of the drawbar. This gives the shaft a slight upward angle from the tractor to the auger. The u-joint at the tractor end is at a slight angle, and the cv joint at the auger is at more of an angle. If the drawbar is too low the shaft will be angled down from the tractor to the auger and this causes a lot more angle on the cv joint. More angle causes more vibration and will break bolts.
