Hereford, TX | I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but I'm new to this site. I'm looking at buying either a new 825i Gator or a 800 Ranger. I've got a 620i Gator and I've noticed if I just put around on it spraying, it will start to sputter when it idles. I have to run some Sea Foam through it and run it hard for a few hours to clear it out. Do the new 825i Gators do that as well? I'll be using my new UTV to change sprinkler flats and gearboxes in the corn, so I want something that will have enough power to carry a bed full of tools and parts through the mud. Thanks for all your opinions.

Get the Gator, hands down the 825i is the best on the market. I work my gator harder than anyone I know, put over 4500 miles on one of them last soil sampling season, pull a 800lb EC cart with mine and it's never underpowered... Ever. I love this machine. I've had a ranger 800 and a kubota 900rtv. The ranger didn't hold up under the work load and over heated often and the kubota I wouldn't recommend unless your riding on pavement. There're too heavy and have horrible suspension. If you go the gator route, spend the money and get the maxxis big horn tires that come as an option. They are amazing in mud.

MN | i'd try both out... we did. ended up with new xp 800 with power steering.. both are nice machines.. for us the local dealer and the fact they are built 10 minutes from me helped.. we have loaded,,probably more correct saying over loaded it picking rock and it never misses a beat plenty of power... we have a mule and the ranger and both have a place but here our ranger sure seems to get used alot..

Piedmont, NC | Ranger outsells the Gator almost 3 to 1. The gator has a china motor. I have driven both and the only way you can choose a gator is wearing green underwear. The resale on a gator is worse too. JMO

North of Iowa | I'd take the Ranger. Not a gaturd fan.

NW Minnesota | Look at the new 900xp rangers, much improvement over the previous series. Motor entirely under the bed, no more heat and noise. Check them out.

SE Michigan | Not a big green fan, but I like the 825i I bouth last January (new). It is different then the 6201 (engine). No problems thus far, I am just at 160 miles. No experience with the Ranger, so I cannot comment. My only issue thus far was I had to tighten the alternator belt, dealer missed that, and from what I understand, it's a common thing.

EC ND | +1 to the maxxis bighorn tire option. I have a 2011 gator with them - blew right past a buddy in his ranger in a soupy muddy field. Of course this was last year since there hasn't been any mud this year..... I also shopped for gator or ranger and at the time I felt I could get more for my dollar with the Gator. I have hauled many loads of rocks and even pulled a few out with the gator. I would feel confident saying that you will overload the suspension before you run out of power to move your load. My friends all have rangers but they also drive Case combines and aren't about to buy something JD, however have admitted that they would like it if they liked JD. I have put 1000 miles on mine, no complaints, no problems. No power steering but not hard to steer - with or without load. Have fun with your choice as either are probably good options.
