North East Wimmera district of Victoria. | Hi everyone, We are in the USA, Ohio mainly and having a great time. Most common thing we hear from complete strangers is "Oh - love your accent!" I haven't got an accent - I'm Australian! Here's a question - Having observed the thousands of trucks on your highways [interstates etc] I see mostly bogie drive prime movers [tractors?] pulling bogie axle trailers. My farming mate tells me the gross combination wieght is 80,000 lb. or in my talk 36.28T. Bogie prime movers in Australia pull a tri axle trailer, and gross weight is 45.00 T depending on suspension specs. I observed Fed Ex semi's with a close hitched 'dog' trailer attached. Axles, - 1 steer, 1 drive, 1 semitrailer rear, then a short pull to a 1 axle 'dolly' with a 1 axle trailer. Obviously a 'bulk load' carrier. Finally to my question - what is the allowable combination weight for such a truck trailer set up?
Now some more - I am fascinated by the one two or three 'drop axles' in front of the drive wheels on what I call a bogie drive tipper. Any info about how much more weight they are allowed , per axle or total? In Aust, the gross weight of the truck is specified on a 'specification plate' affixed at point of manufacture. If we tried sticking more axles under the chassis, we would be in strife with the road traffic authorities.
Cheers
