Going through that right now, do NOT wait till spring to start with it. At LEAST get it mowed down short. Assuming no trees or anything growing...lucky.

Get it sprayed this fall. Depending what is going don't pussyfoot around with it-maybe even gramoxone? If not full rate of roundup and 2-4D. If things are dormant now due to drought you may have a problem with about anything.

Then go out in early spring and maybe hit it again with Roundup and 2-4d.

Not sure if you are thinking corn or beans, I hate to see you work it, but I understand if rough and corn, beans will grow in rougher stuff ok where even emergence not as important.

If beans I would just drill them in the spring, or at least 15 inch rows. I only had 30" planter so actually planted it 2 times to get poor mans 15" rows. I waited too long and was having trouble getting a drill into ground. If you do beans I would double innoculate.

If corn I would definately use a full rate of insecticide.

Final thing, get those soil tests done asap, may need lime.
