Doesn't matter where you put your disconnect, either positive or negative will work. Only exception I can think of was the 24volt JD tractors with the cable from the right battery connected to the starter terminal all the time. Any short or leakage in the starter would kill the right battery pretty quick and with some brush dust always laying around plus a little moisture, the right battery had a harder time than the left.

Best not to think much about those tractors' electrical system, just too confusing!
