Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | Consider yourself lucky you can still burn it. Most rice straw burning in CA is banned now, so they have to bale it. It is usually worth about the cost of baling, handling to a stackyard and the freight to get it where someone can do something with it. Last stuff I bought was $28/bale (3x4 big squares), and most of that was for the 250 mile haul it took to get it here. The rice growers I know would still much prefer burning it. Trouble with baling is it might be tough to be able to get a clean burn on what is left.
Wheat and barley straw here is much the same, although the straw is actually worth a little as there is a market for it. But a lot of guys don't want someone baling it as it makes it harder to burn the stubble off clean. Being able to get rid of the rest of the stubble is worth more than what you get for selling it for someone to bale sometimes. | |
