Embarrass WI | Our area has a Quality Deer Management chapter. I've been to their meeting, it's all happy talk-"shoot does, pass on small bucks". Go to the meeting after season-"how many does did you kill?" "None, but I shot a 15 inch spread 8 pointer!" Then throw the rack in the corner in the garage with all the rest of the 15-16" 8 pointers. They just can't get it through their heads that if you kill them when they are halfway decent they will never grow up to be really big. If they would thin out the does, the bucks would have to move during the rut and the deer would have the opportunity to get some size. Our does get smaller every year, last couple years adult does have only been 90-95 lbs field dressed. A 120 lber looks like a monster compared to most.
I killed 11 does myself last year, just hunting hard during regular gun season. And hitting what I shot at. Passed several bucks, I see no reason to kill a buck unless he can displace the one on my living room wall.
