Subject: Ever see a Ford screw type logsplitter?

West Union, Illinois

I was helping a friend move some firewood Thursday (another long story) and noticed his splitter.  I have never seen A) a screw splitter and B) a Ford log splitter.  He has no idea how old this thing is.  I almost asked him to fire it up, but I came to my senses quickly.

Never saw such a thing.

Would want to use a lot of grease on that screw!

I have never seen or heard of such a machine. This rig has a homemade look about it. That name tag may have been on some piece of machinery and cannibalized to make the main frame of this log splitter.
I noticed a centrifugal clutch. Wonder how they reverse it to pull the splitter back and limit the stroke both ways.

I thought maybe you meant a corkscrew splitter.

I have seen one of those, but I don't think it was a Ford.  A buddy had it mounted on the axle of an old car up on blocks.  He was more of a Chevy man.

in person it looks factory.  I didn't look real close, but there is a lever to reverse it.  I assume a small transmission of some kind.  On the left side under the engine is a stroke length adjustment.

i'll bet that screw splitter is damn slow ! Have you ever seen a corkscrew splitter run ! They are really fast ! but have been outlawed here due to the serious injuries they inflict to the operators. Every now and then a piece will grab and start spinning with the screw or fly apart so quick that it flies in every direction. Fun to watch though.
