If you have access to corn stalks, I would buy late bred old cows that are getting sold due to the drought. Calve them out on stalks and sell the cows before you have to start feeding hay to them this winter. Background the early weaned calves if you have the feed and room or sell them late this winter. Electric fence and corn stalks are cheap. Lather, rinse, repeat until the farm is yours. Should work pretty well and will keep the cash flowing. Hard to get hurt too bad in my opinion. KLo
How does a guy go about doing this? Is there cattle brokers you can call to place orders? I wouldn't want to be sending a check until I had the cattle, isn't that how all those guys got stuck when Eastern Livestock went under? Would you run a bull with these cows and sell them next spring as bred or what? |
