Mascoutah, Illinois | The amazing part about so many seeing this drought coming was the dumb things they did if they saw it coming. Why didn't folks use less NH3, why did folks not put down less fertilizer, why didn't folks plant about half of the normal population at seeding time, why didn't folks no till and save fuel and multiple passes over acres? Amazingly enough so many saw this crop failure coming and yet foolishly ran up expenses. Where is the logic in that? I couldn't imagine wasting that amount of capital knowing you were headed for a crop failure because it was dry last year and we had record warmth this spring. With that being said, I think the smoke blowing needs to stop concerning weather and what actions were taken in putting this crop in. It seems to me the counterproductivity tells me you didn't know diddly about what was coming or you have little idea on how to manage risk if you did.
