Humeston, IA | Was pulling a nearly empty 28% sidedress rig back to the coop tonight (15th speed, road gear) when all of a sudden the "Trans Pres" light came on and the tractor started to coast. I clutched, came to a stop, put it in park, then tried to put it in gear again. Nothing. Turned off the tractor engine, started up again, and was able to put it in gear and drive off. Hmm.

my 4630 PS acted that way when the tranny pump went out.

Embarrass WI | My 4450 just needed a trans pressure sender. Service mgr at the dealer talked me through it, said they have a high failure rate. It's behind a shield on the side of the trans under the cab door, about the size of a 7/8 deep well socket. Edited by Tim in WI 6/19/2012 21:41

The coasting part would have me worried. If it was mine I would hook up some test gauges and check transmission pressures.

West Central Iowa | I would be dropping the hyd oil and pulling the sump screen.....it may be plugged with brake lining material.

Ayr Queensland Australia 4807 | Transmission pump woodruff key is a possible cause sounds like a tricky one let us know what you find. I wonder if the tow disconnect is working its way out and goes back in when it starts

Saronville NE | Sounds like new tranny to me, exactly why I will never own another 15spd PS been into 1 and had another go bad, nothing $15k-20k wont fix, good luck. Ill take a good ol quadrange anyday, they are bullet proof compared to a 15sp PS. Been into them too but cheap to fix vs the PS.

Humeston, IA | Perhaps it wasn't exactly coasting...more like it came to a stop after a few jerks. Definitely not a free wheel, but not an abrupt stop, either. What I thought was odd that it started shifting/moving properly again after shutting off the tractor.

When you lose enough transmission pressure, the shift valves move the transmission into neutral. Also, the engagement over-ride valve moves to the shutoff position and keeps the transmission from going into gear, until you reset it by moving the shift lever to park or "neutral-neutal". Could your problem be as simple as being low on oil and your pump started sucking air when you were in 15th gear?
