I spent the afternoon trying to get an XP machine hooked to a network. Found that it didn't have an Ethernet connection so downloaded the driver for the Ethernet. He has 2 other computers on the network that are Windows 7 systems. The name of the network is the default WORKGROUP. Each has it's own name. No passwords and this network isn't on the Internet. I've rebooted the system, and the light on the router shows that it sees the computer. However if I issue an ipconfig in a command window it show the default address rather than the 192.168.1.1 of the router. It's a goofy computer in on a machine. But it is Windows XP professional, SP2. Everything seems normal, it's set to share the printer and files too. I even turned off the firewall as there is no outside world connection. Any thoughts? |
