central - east central Minnesota - | bison96 - 6/10/2012 20:23 I am in NW Minnesota - first time growing corn in about 15 years. I didn't put down all the N last fall and was planning to side dress NH3 this week on the corn. Just received 2 1/2 inches of much needed rain - so it will be a few days before I can get into the field if it doesn't rain anymore. The corn is currently in the V4 stage and I am using a knife applicator. How late can I go with a knife into corn? How much root damage will I do? Has anyone seen yield reductions by using a knife in to big of corn. I have read the Farm Journal article and that is what has me a bit apprehensive. You need N - I wouldn't worry so much about root pruning, as getting the N on. IF, if you knew rain was for sure, Urea could be a option - more expensive option . . . I'd still consider NH3, due to less cost. |
