Subject: RE: Gooseneck Trailer Options

Northeast Indiana (Auburn)
My gooseneck trailer has two 12,000lb Dexter axles with electric brakes. Never had a problem with the brakes in the 17 years I've had it. The brake pads are 5" wide and work good. I have my controller set so the trailer brakes will stop the truck and trailer without using the truck brakes when loaded. I haul around 350 bu of soybeans and feel a lot safer than when I had a trailer with (3) 7,000lb axles. Electric over hydraulic is a nice setup but will add around $2000 to the trailer/controller price. Most of the people that have trouble with electric brakes have ground problems. Whatever trailer you buy make sure all electrical conections are soldered and/or are in a water proof box.
