Subject: Anhydrous break away coupler

Central Nebraska
We are changing our break away coupler on the NH3 rig. Our dealer gave us a Squibb Taylor Flo-Max II coupler. This morning we were figuring out how it exactly works so we attached a hose and coupled it together and tried to pull it apart. Had 3 people on the hose trying to pull it apart and couldn't get it to come apart. On our old Pioneer coupler I can pull it apart without any difficulty. Does anyone have one that pulls apart easy or has had a situation where the coupler came apart as it was supposed to? I'm afraid that if the coupler would have to come apart, it will ruin the hose before the coupler comes apart.

Thanks

Mike

Can you take it apart manually?  I've never tried to PULL but I've jerked them apart and it takes some effort.  The operators manual says 200 to 300# of force.  That's all we use.  There's always the chance of a bad one.

We quit using the breakaway couplers because the few times we have lost a tank, it tore the hose up anyway.

I wouldn't be telling that if you are in IL. State law here requires one breakaway for each tank. And yes they come by and check compliance every year.

After dinner we mounted it up to the rig and put the hose end on an old hose and tied to the ATV with a chain and "simulated" a break away. It worked both times we tried it with the ATV and then my brother just pulled it by himself and it came apart, so no concern. Dad figured that we better test it so we know it works, would hate to find out the hard way.
