Subject: RE: Frost law

central - east central Minnesota -

nw_farm - 3/9/2012 12:20 I have too ask. What's the frost law?

In the north (Minnesota) the roads freeze deeply and when the frost comes out of the roads, they are soft and spongy (not noticably - but do move - heave and sink) so when heavy axle loads are placed on the roads (gravel, asphalt or concrete) they tend to "give" breaking up the surface/base . . . .
Some roads are built to handle the weights/traffic during this time frame - others are posted for certin weights the road can handle during the posted periods (when frost is coming out). Most are generally constructed to 5 ton limits and some county are 7 ton limits. Most twp roads are 3ton or less . . . . .
